Kathryn (Kate) Nugent

Veterinary Assistant

Primary Clinic: Menlo Park

Kate was born and raised in the East Bay and has been riding and working with horses for 22+ years. She earned her Bachelors degree in Biology at Dominican University of California in Marin County. In 1999, Kate became a member of the Redwood Pony Club where she earned her C-1 rating, from there she went on to compete through Training level in Eventing and First level Dressage but most of her career has been in the Jumpers up to the meters.

Kate has spent the last 5 years working in small and large animal practices. Large animal was the perfect intersection of her love and experience with horses and science.

Kate has one horse, Chatti, a 28-year-old Irish Sport Horse/Connemara cross who she imported from Ireland in 2007. Chatti is a clever, sassy overgrown pony. Seeing as Chatti is only a year younger than her, he and Kate essentially grew up together. They tackled many cross-country courses and jumper rings in their competition days. While he is mostly retired now, they still enjoy trail rides, hacks, and the occasional jump around followed by a well-intentioned buck by the old man.

Outside of work you’ll find Kate spends her time at home with her miniature Australian Shepherd Archie, cooking, baking, camping, and traveling on the weekends with her friends Marti and Sam when she can.
