Maya Desai

Maya Desai hails from Los Altos, California, and grew up riding horses in the San Francisco Bay Area. She first got on a horse when she was just 4 years old, and by high school was doing Dressage and Eventing in the Woodside area, riding on her barn’s IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) Hunt Seat Team. Her mom is a small animal veterinarian, which may have helped influence Maya’s passion for medicine and helping animals and their owners.

Maya earned a BSc in Microbiology at the University of Michigan. She kept extra busy working in a small animal emergency clinic and riding for the University of Michigan Equestrian Team for four years. Dr. Desai added her DVM/BVetMed at the Royal Veterinary College in the UK, riding with the Royal College Equestrian Team for her three years there. She is eager to figure out what her specific area of interest is within equine veterinary medicine while doing her Internship at Steinbeck Peninsula Equine Clinics.

While Maya has never owned her own horse, she hopes to in the future. She currently lives with her black cat, Sid, who came into her life when she was in high school. Maya loves yoga, hiking, and getting coffee with friends.
