Jessica grew up on the Mornington Peninsula in Australia. She began riding at a young age and hasn’t stopped since. She’s a competitive show jumper, but had to leave her beloved thoroughbred gelding, Ceasar, back home in Australia while she does her internship here in the States.
Dr. Beattie received her BS in 2015 and her DVM in 2019, both from the University of Melbourne. Throughout veterinary school, she gained a wide range of experience working with animals including assisting with the operation of sled dog tours and care of the huskies at Mt. Buller, performing routine procedures at a sheep and cattle farm, and capturing and treating wildlife in South Africa, as well as working with horses and teaching horseback riding. Just prior to joining SPEC, she worked as a veterinarian at an equine sports medicine practice ini Australia, with a focus on racetrack and performance medicine.
Dr. Beattie’s veterinary interests include surgery, sports medicine and emergency medicine. Some special areas of focus in her studies have been evaluating the efficacy of mesenchymal stem cell therapy in the treatment of tendon injuries in performance horses and evaluating the incidence of musculoskeletal injury in racehorses and predisposing factors, in particular jockey weight.
When not working or riding, Jessica loves hiking and Pilates.
