Leslie Wu

DVM

Primary Location: Salinas

2022-2023 Intern

Dr. Leslie Wu hails from Houston, Texas. She started riding when she was young, as a way to connect with friends, but it kindled a never-ending passion for exciting equine sports. Leslie was an active rider on the Texas Hunter/Jumper circuit. When she moved to Arizona for graduate school, she started eventing and cross-country jumping, as well.

Leslie always knew she was going to work with horses at some point in her life. Since medicine and science have also always been among her passions, it was only natural for her to pursue a career as an equine veterinarian. She adores working with these amazing equine athletes and the people who love them.

After earning her BS in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University, Leslie went on to add her Masters of Biomedical Science along with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Midwestern University in Arizona. Having experienced the amazing mentorship all the Steinbeck Peninsula Equine Clinics doctors offered during an externship, SPEC was Leslie’s first choice for her internship. She finds that everyone has the same goals in mind: providing the best care to patients and clients, while also working to educate the young professionals who represent the future of veterinary medicine. She truly appreciates the way team members work together in support of the best outcomes for the clinics’ equine patients and believes that attitude, in turn, offers a unique learning opportunity to help further her career.

Leslie is particularly interested in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation including adjunctive therapeutic modalities. She strives to offer great medicine, while providing different ways to help her patients. She is currently working toward her full equine rehabilitation certification through the University of Tennessee.

Currently without a horse of her own, Leslie hopes to have one in the near future. Meanwhile, she has two cats named Persephone and Nitrous who moved to California with her. Back in Arizona, she also has a ball python named Gemini and a betta fish named Sushi. When she’s not working, Leslie enjoys getting outside and hiking, camping, and kayaking. One of her life goals is to eventually travel to all the U.S. National Parks. Living in California puts her close to several of them, so she hopes to take advantage of the proximity to hike as many as her busy schedule allows. On weekends off, you can also be sure to find Leslie frequenting farmers markets and getting the freshest local produce while supporting the community.
